Fox Cancels ‘The Moodys’

06.18.2021

It’s official. Fox has canceled The Moodys after two seasons. The final three episodes were initially pulled from schedule last month, but they have begun airing again earlier this month. The series finale will air on June 20th.

DEADLINE – Fox is saying goodbye to The Moodys. The network will not be bringing the family comedy series, which stars Denis Leary and Elizabeth Perkins, back for a third season.

The show, based on Australian series A Moody Christmas, started as a holiday event comedy series with the first installment airing during the holiday season in 2019. Fox brought it back for a second season as an ongoing family comedy, but the half-hour starring Denis Leary has struggled to get traction, ranking among the lowest rated Fox series.

Written by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Tad Quill, The Moodys follows the tight-knit, but slightly dysfunctional, Moody family through their misadventures.

The Moodys family includes Sean Sr. (Leary), his wife, Ann (Perkins), and their three grown children – Dan (Francois Arnaud, the youngest of the siblings and the “creative one”; Bridget (Chelsea Frei), the middle sister and the “overachiever”; and Sean Jr. (Jay Baruchel), the oldest sibling and “screw-up,” still living at home with his parents. The Moodys also features María Gabriela de Faría, Josh Segarra, Kevin Bigley and Gerry Dee.

François Joins Apple Series ‘Surface’

François is set to star in Apple’s upcoming psychological thriller, Surface! It will also star Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Stephan James, Ari Graynor, Marianna Jean Baptiste, and Millie Brady. Filming will start this week. Check out the character descriptions and the synopsis!

Starring Mbatha-Raw as Sophie, Surface is an elevated thriller about a woman’s quest to rebuild her life after a suicide attempt, and her struggle to remember – and understand – everything that led up to the moment when she jumped.

Jackson-Cohen plays James, Sophie’s (Mbatha-Raw) husband and a well-connected and successful partner at a venture capital firm.

James portrays Baden, an undercover cop with a strong connection to Sophie (Mbatha-Raw).

Graynor is Caroline, an heiress and old friend of Sophie (Mbatha-Rawa) and James (Jackson-Cohen).

Arnaud plays Harrison, a colleague and friend of James (Jackson-Cohen).

Baptiste is Hannah, Sophie’s (Mbatha-Raw) therapist.

Brady is Eliza, mysterious woman that connects to Sophie’s (Mbatha-Raw) past.

Fox Renews ‘The Moodys’ for Season 2

07.11.2020

It started off as a holiday event series, but Fox has picked up The Moodys for a second season! It will not be holiday-themed and might have a bigger episode order. Here’s the official press release:

FOX has renewed the critically acclaimed comedy series THE MOODYS for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, FOX Entertainment. Starring and executive-produced by Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominees Denis Leary (“Rescue Me”) and Elizabeth Perkins (“Sharp Objects”), THE MOODYS follows a tight-knit, but slightly dysfunctional, family through their misadventures.

“With THE MOODYS, we set out to brand the holidays in the only way FOX can – bold and unconventional. What we ended up with was a special show – and a family – everyone at the network fell in love with,” said Thorn. “Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Tad Quill perfectly captured the hysterics of Christmas, with sharp banter and real moments of family togetherness brought to life by Denis Leary, Elizabeth Perkins and the rest of the incredible cast. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and CBS Television Studios have been great partners on this series; and, simply put, we’re looking forward to The Moodys’ future adventures.”

THE MOODYS family includes SEAN SR. (Leary), his wife, ANN (Perkins), and their three grown children – DAN (Francois Arnaud, “Midnight, Texas”), the youngest of the siblings and the “creative one”; BRIDGET (Chelsea Frei, “Sideswiped”), the middle sister and the “overachiever”; and SEAN JR. (Jay Baruchel, “Man Seeking Woman,” the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise), the oldest sibling and “screw-up,” still living at home with his parents. THE MOODYS also features María Gabriela de Faría (“Deadly Class”), Josh Segarra (“Orange Is the New Black”), Kevin Bigley (“Here and Now”) and Gerry Dee (“Mr. D.”).
